Participants spent the day in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley, learning about two contemporary photographers who have turned their lenses on eco-systems in peril: Roger Craton whose color images focus on Antarctica and Clyde Butcher whose black and white images explore the rich biota of the Everglades. The day began at the Wildling Art Museum in Los Olivos where guest curator, Karen Sinsheimer talked about the exhibition Fragile Environments and about photographic aesthetics. After lunch on their own, the class reconvened at the Museums administrative offices to hear photographer, Roger Craton, talk about his work both in Antarctica and elsewhere.
