Jeannette Sainz, a resident of Los Alamos and a rancher and conservationist dedicated to finding ways to preserve the tiger salamander without effecting agriculture, is famous for her photographs of the Calochortus Lily, a species commonly called the Mariposa Lily. This wild member of the Lilliacea family ranges in size from the tip of your fingernail to shoulder height, its colors from chrome yellow to luminescent pink, and its shapes from tulip-like to passion-flower form. Ms. Sainz has photographed all species living on the North American continent. Her fascinating slide lecture has been presented for the Native Plant Society chapters in Monterey and Bishop; at San Francisco State University; the Jepsen Herbarium at UC Berkeley, and the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden.
