Artist Patti Jacquemain, founder and president of the Wildling Art Museum, gave a visual presentation on the history and mystique of the California grizzly bear on June 20 at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. Sponsored by the Wildling Art Museum and the Sierra Clubs Santa Barbara Group, the program began at 7:00 p.m., and was followed by a potluck dinner. Admission was free, and guests were invited to bring a dish to share.
Jacquemains presentation was based on extensive research she did for her latest book, a childrens story called Journey of the Great Bear through Californias Golden Past. A book signing was held during the potluck dinner following the program, which took place in the museums Fleishmann Auditorium.
A lifelong nature lover, Jacquemain has had over 30 local and national one-person exhibits of her original wood block prints. Many of her works have been used in calendars and greeting cards, such as the ones recently published by the Sierra Club. Jacquemain is also an accomplished mosaic artist, with the bear being one of her favorite subjects.
The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History is located at 2559 Puesta del Sol in Santa Barbara.
