If you are looking for something different to do on a Friday evening and meet other people with similar interests, join the Wildling Art Museum in Los Olivos for its program Free Friday Flicks. The first Friday of every month, the Museum will be showing outstanding films about wildlife with an opportunity for socializing and discussion afterward. Popcorn (naturally), cookies, wine and soft drinks will be provided free of charge.
The next program, June 3, 7 p.m. featured Never Cry Wolf(1983). This engaging film, based on Carroll Ballard's adaptation of Farley Mowat's autobiographical novel, follows Mowat (Charles Martin Smith) into the tundra, where he's supposed to study the harm that wolves inflict on the caribou herds. As he struggles to make it in the harsh surroundings, he comes to the conclusion that the caribous' worst enemies are not the wolves at all. Hiro Narita's cinematography is spectacular, and the evocative sound was nominated for an Academy Award. This film has some violence in it, so it is not recommended for young children.
The film was shown at the Wildling Art Museum, 2329 Jonata Street (between Matteis Tavern and St. Marks Episcopal Church). Bring pillows if you want to lie on the floor. It is also important to arrive on time. For more information, call 688-1082.
