The first Friday of each month, the Wildling Art Museum in Los Olivos, a museum devoted to the art of Americas wilderness, screens notable films about nature or art and invites the public to come see them free of charge. The Museum also provides free popcorn and cookies, wine, water, and soft drinks. Reservations are not required, but space is limited and seats are available on a first come, first served basis.
The Free Friday Flicks are underwritten by a generous grant from The Valley Foundation.
Free Friday Flicks under the Stars: March of the Penguins
Every summer the Wildling Art Museum presents one of its Free Friday Flicks in its garden under the stars. The outdoor movie this summer, featured the famous March of the Penguins, an 80-minute feature documentary, narrated by Morgan Freeman, with astonishing photography by a French crew under the direction of Luc Jacquet. This film, released in 2005 to enormous critical acclaim, shows the trials of the Emperor penguins in Antarctica, as they pursue their steadfast quest through frigid water and over the brutal ice to find their mates and raise their young.
The public was invited to congregate on the Museums lawn beginning at 6 p.m. to listen to musicians Gary Foshee, Jeff Bisch, Kate Bennett, and Cinder Jean who entertained the crowd with their folk songs as the night sky darkened. The Museum provided popcorn, cookies, water, soft drinks, wine, and beer.
The movie began at dusk and was shown at the Wildling Art Museums Garden. For more information or directions, call 688-1082.
