Using
the methodology taught by the late great landscape painter Ray Strong,
instructors for the Wildling Art Museum conducted a week-long
painting workshop August 6-10. Called Building a
Painting, the workshop led students six years old
through
adult from the stage of preparatory drawings and panel preparation,
through completion of one or more paintings in acrylics. The class,
limited to 20, met daily, 10 a.m. to noon, in the
Museums
garden.
The Wildling Art Museum specializes in programs for all ages with the expectation that children, parents and grandparents enjoy learning something new together. The Building a Painting Class was team-taught by landscape painters Melinda Weymouth and Linda Nelson, who painted with Ray Strong and could pass on his theories and inspiration. Weymouth, who has taught many art classes for the Wilding Art Museum, is currently art instructor at the Santa Ynez Charter School and for Arts Outreach. Nelson, who has also taught for several of the Wildlings art camps, teaches both children and adults privately and in semi-private classes in Santa Barbara. She had an exhibition of her landscapes at Studio 113 in Santa Barbara in August.
