Using the methodology taught
by the late great landscape painter Ray Strong, instructors for the
Wildling Art Museum conducted a week-long painting workshop August
7-11. Called Building a Painting, the workshop
led students, six years old through adult, from the stage of
preparatory drawings and panel preparation, through completion of one
or more paintings in acrylics. The class, limited to 20, met daily, 10
a.m. to noon, in the Museums garden.
The Wildling Art Museum specializes in programs for all ages with the expectation that children, parents, and grandparents enjoy learning something new together. The Building a Painting workshop was team-taught by painters who, like Melinda Weymouth the lead teacher, studied with Ray Strong and can pass on his theories and inspiration.
The per person fee, included all materials and an instruction booklet written by Ray Strong with John Iwerks. A discount was offered to families that enroll three or more members.
