The Wildling Art Museum in Los Olivos organized a bus trip on January 20 to the Autry National Center’s Museum of the American West to see the exhibition, “Yosemite: Art of An American Icon.” Participants toured this important exhibition, which had been several years in the planning, with the curator, Amy Scott, and were able to see both Part I, which included 140 historic images of Yosemite, including paintings, photographs and prints, all made before 1970, and Part II, which included contemporary images created since 1970. Historic artists included in Part I included Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Hill, William Keith, Carlton Watkins, and Ansel Adams.

In the afternoon, participants had the opportunity to either view a special screening of David Vassar’s award-winning short, “Discover Hetch-Hetchy” and to listen to a panel discuss tomorrow’s options for what is called, Yosemite’s “Twin Valley,” or to explore the Autry’s amazing permanent collections. Lunch was brought from home or purchased in the Museum’s nice cafeteria.

The bus left Los Olivos (from in front of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church) at 8:00 a.m., returning around 6 p.m. It left Santa Barbara (from La Cumbre Plaza Parking Lot, Upper Level) at 9:00 a.m., returning around 5 p.m.
