art campThe Wildling Art Museum added an additional session to its summer art workshop offerings. A weeklong program, Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to noon, called “Building a Painting,” was offered August 8-12. The five-day session, open to students 6 years old through adult, was team taught under the supervision of Melinda Weymouth. Using the methodology espoused by famed landscape artist, Ray Strong, students developed their own painting from initial drawings and studies in value and color to the finished work created in acrylics. All materials were provided, and will include a copy of John Iwerks’ recently published booklet, “A Landscape Painting Primer for Students Eight through Eighty by Ray Strong in his own words.”

Melinda Weymouth is a landscape painter and protégé of Ray Strong. She has taught art for many years in the Santa Barbara schools and is currently art specialist at the Isla Vista School, and outreach coordinator for the Sedgwick Reserve.

The workshop was limited to 20 students. The classes met all five days on the grounds of the Museum, 2329 Jonata Street, in Los Olivos, and individualized instruction was provided.
