The Wildling Art Museum, an
educational institution dedicated to presenting the art of
Americas wilderness, has now been open to the public in the
Keenan-Hartley House in Los Olivos for five years. Since that time it
has mounted twenty exhibitions on various wilderness themes, ranging
from Ansel Adams photographs, to art and poetry inspired by trees,
greeted more than 20,000 visitors, and offered a myriad of art and
nature classes and workshops. To celebrate this occasion and to thank
those involved with its success, the Museum iinvited its members and
their guests to Zaca Lake to spend the day picnicking, swimming,
boating, hiking and sketching.
According to Director Penny Knowles, the Museum now has 468 individual and family memberships. Zaca Lake is the only natural lake in the County, and since day use is very limited there, this is a rare opportunity to enjoy this scenic and ecological treasure. Naturalists will be offering guided hikes to explore the flora and fauna, artists are encouraged to bring sketching materials and painting equipment and everyone their own picnic lunches. The Museum provided the cake.
